How to Tell If Your MCA Broker Lied to You

How to Tell If Your MCA Broker Lied to You

Almost every business owner who calls BDA was misled by an MCA broker. Same patterns, same lies, same trap. If your broker promised something that didn’t happen, a refinance, consolidation, lower payments after 2 weeks, you weren’t unlucky. You were targeted. Here’s what to look for, and what works to undo it.

The 7 Universal MCA Broker Lies

  1. “We’ll consolidate this with a bigger advance in 2 weeks.”
  2. “Your payment will go down after the next round of funding.”
  3. “This is a 4-part funding plan, better terms after the first round.”
  4. “It’s basically an SBA loan / business line of credit.”
  5. “You won’t see the daily ACH.” (You will.)
  6. “It’s a 12% rate.” (That’s a factor rate, not APR, actually 80%+ APR.)
  7. “You can refinance after 90 days at lower rates.” (No, UCC filings block that.)

Red-Flag Phrases in MCA Broker Calls

  • “Approved instantly” / “instant approval”
  • “Soft credit check only”
  • “Pre-qualified” or “qualify in minutes”
  • “Trust-based funding”
  • “We’ll handle the paperwork, just sign here”
  • “It’s like an SBA loan”

After the Broker Disappears

  • They got their commission. They have no incentive to come back.
  • Their “consolidation in 2 weeks” call never comes.
  • The next call is from collections, not the broker.
  • 9 in 10 BDA clients describe this exact pattern.

What Actually Works After the Lie

  • Don’t take another advance (“consolidation” or otherwise).
  • Don’t try to negotiate with the lender alone, lenders are dismissive on solo calls.
  • Don’t ignore the daily ACH, UCC filings will compound.
  • Call a settlement specialist with a track record. BDA: 11 years, $500M+ resolved.
